How does an atmospheric water dispenser work?

From the humidity in the air to the water in your glass: the four steps explained simply.

Published 11 October 2026 · DILO'AIR

An atmospheric water dispenser makes water without being connected to the mains. It captures the water vapour in the air of the room, turns it into liquid water, then filters it. Here is how it works, step by step.

1. Ambient air is drawn in

The air around us always contains water vapour that we cannot see. A fan circulates the air of the room through the dispenser.

2. The water vapour condenses

Inside, the air passes over a cooled surface. It is the same thing that happens when a cold glass mists up or when morning dew forms: on contact with cold, water vapour turns back into liquid. The droplets are collected in a tank.

3. The water is filtered

The collected water then goes through several filtration stages and ultraviolet (UV) treatment before it is stored.

4. You pour hot or cold water

On the DILO'AIR dispenser, you choose the water temperature as you serve: hot for tea, cold to cool down.

What does the amount of water depend on?

The DILO'AIR dispenser can make up to 20 litres a day. That figure is a maximum: actual output mainly depends on two factors.

  • Air humidity: the more humid the air, the more water vapour there is to capture.
  • Temperature: warm, humid air is more favourable than cool, dry air.

This is why regions with a warm, humid climate are well suited to this type of appliance.

What you need to install it

A power socket is enough. No plumbing, no bottles to order or store. Place the dispenser in a room where air can circulate freely.
